Eternal Father, Your Son has promised us that You will grant us all the graces that we ask of You in His name. In the name, then, and by the merits of Jesus Christ, I ask for myself and for all men the following graces. And first, I beg You to give me a lively faith in all that the holy Roman Church teaches me. Grant me also Your light, that it may make me know the vanity of the goods of this earth and the greatness of the infinite Good that You are; may it also make me know the deformity of the sins I have committed, that I may humble myself and detest them as I ought, and the merit of Your goodness, that I may love You with all my heart. Make me know, moreover, the love You have borne me, so that from this day forward I may strive to be grateful for such goodness. Second, give me a firm confidence in Your mercy, that through the merits of Jesus Christ and the intercession of Mary I may receive the forgiveness of my sins, holy perseverance, and finally the glory of Paradise. Third, give me a great love for You, that may detach me from all affections for the earth and for myself, so that I may love nothing but You, occupy myself with nothing, and desire nothing but Your glory. Fourth, I beg You to give me a perfect resignation to Your will, accepting in peace sorrows, infirmities, contempt, persecutions, spiritual aridity, losses of property, of reputation, or of relatives, and every other cross that shall come to me from Your hands. I offer myself wholly to You, that You may do with me and with all that is mine whatever pleases You; but do You give me light and strength to carry out all Your holy will; and especially at death give me the help to sacrifice my life to You with all my affection, in union with the great sacrifice that Jesus Your Son made to You of His life on Calvary, on the cross. Fifth, I ask You for a great sorrow for my sins, that may make me live ever sorrowful, weeping until death over the offenses I have given You, the supreme Good, who are worthy of infinite love and have loved me so much. Sixth, I beg You to give me the spirit of true humility and meekness, that may make me embrace with peace, and even with pleasure, all the contempt, ingratitude, and ill treatment that I shall receive from men. And together with this I beg You to give me a perfect charity, that may make me wish well to those who have done me evil, and strive to benefit, as far as I can — at least by praying — all those who shall have done me some offense. Seventh, I beg You to give me a love for the virtue of holy mortification, that may make me chastise my rebellious senses and contradict my self-love; and with this I beg You to grant me holy purity of body, giving me the help to resist all unchaste temptations by then having recourse always to You and to Your most holy Mother. Give me the grace to obey punctually the orders of my spiritual father and of all my superiors. Give me a right intention, so that all that I do and desire may be entirely for Your glory and to give You pleasure. Give me a great confidence in the Passion of Jesus Christ and in the intercession of Mary Immaculate. Give me a great affection for the Most Blessed Sacrament of the altar, and a tender devotion and love toward Your holy Mother. Above all, I beg You, give me holy perseverance, and the grace to ask it of You always, especially in time of temptation and at my death.
Then I commend to You the holy souls in Purgatory, my relatives and benefactors, and in a special manner I commend to You all those who hate me or have done me some offense; I beg You to repay them with good for the evil they have done me or wish me. Finally, I commend to You the infidels, the heretics, and all poor sinners; give them light and strength to come out of sin. O most loving God, make Yourself known, and make Yourself loved by all, but especially by me, who have been more ungrateful to You than others, so that by Your goodness I may one day come to sing Your mercies for ever in Paradise, as I hope through the merits of Your blood and the patronage of Mary. O Mary, Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me. So I hope; so may it be.
